Letter from PRSD Superintendent Jeff Thompson:
Dear Peace River School Division Families,
Earlier today, the Peace River School Division received official notice from the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) that if a negotiated settlement between the ATA and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) is not achieved, a province-wide teacher strike will commence on Monday, October 6.
Between today and October 6, bargaining is expected to continue between the ATA and TEBA.
Should a settlement fail to be negotiated, a strike means the provision of educational services by our teaching staff will be suspended and our schools will be unable to accommodate students effective October 6.
We understand this news may bring challenges and anxiety for your family. Parents and guardians are our partners in education and we hope this advance notice of a potential strike date will help you make plans for this possibility.
We deeply value the contributions our entire staff make in fostering success for all students, and we remain hopeful that TEBA and the ATA will successfully conclude the bargaining process as soon as possible.
The Peace River School Division is committed to keeping you informed. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide timely updates as they become available. Please watch for further communication through email, our school division website, and official social media channels.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our schools, students and staff.
Sincerely,
Jeff Thompson, PhD Superintendent of Schools
