Brandsma Land-Based Learning Coordinator at Northland

Northland School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Holly Brandsma as the new Land-Based Learning Coordinator.

In this role, she will enhance land-based learning initiatives across the division and support Debbie Mineault, Director of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Education.

A proud Métis woman connected to the historic community of mânitow sâkahikanihk – Lac Ste. Anne, Brandsma brings 24 years of experience in education, including consulting, curriculum coordination, and teaching from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Superintendent Cal Johnson stated that her role was created in response to community feedback emphasizing the need to integrate local language and culture into the curriculum.

Brandsma expressed her commitment to collaborating with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to incorporate community voices and language revitalization into land-based educational approaches.

She holds a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Indigenous Land-Based Education, and a Leadership Certification
