Teachers Strike Set To Begin On Monday

stock-classroom-jpg-2

More than 50,000 Albera teachers are set to walk off the job on Monday as talks between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the provincial government have hit a stand-still.

Teachers have rejected two tentative deals this year, including one this past week, saying wages have not kept pace with inflation and that classroom conditions have become unsustainable.

Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides says the province has already put online a curriculum that parents can use to teach their children should the strike take place.

The Government has also set up a program where parents of students under 12, who attend school, are supplied $30 a day, or $150 a week, per student, during the labour action.
