Fairview’s newly elected Town Council held its first Regular Meeting on November 18, following the earlier Organizational Meeting on November 3 where councillors were appointed to committees, boards, and commissions for the upcoming year.
During the session, Council received an update from the RCMP. Cpl. Kurt Fink introduced Sgt. David Illi as the new Detachment Commander and reported that the Fairview detachment is expected to be fully staffed by December.
Council also addressed the needs of local fire services, approving the purchase of a used ladder fire truck from the Town of Sexsmith for $120,000. The acquisition comes shortly after the arrival of the community’s new Rescue Truck, further strengthening emergency response capabilities.
Budget planning for 2026 is underway, with a Town Council Budget Meeting scheduled for November 25. Council and Administration will review the interim operating and capital budgets, which must be approved before the end of the year. The final 2026 budget is expected in April, prior to the setting of the annual tax rate.
Administration has been directed to proceed with a tax sale for the property located at 11028 100 Avenue. The sale is scheduled for February 24, 2026. Council also approved a development incentive to support the construction of a new home.
Updates were provided regarding the Fairview Aquatic Centre, where a brief operational shutdown will be required to install a new rooftop HVAC unit. Residents are encouraged to watch for further information regarding the temporary closure.
Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting STARS Air Ambulance, approving $10,000 in funding per year for the next four years to help maintain critical emergency medical services across the region.
Support for regional agriculture was also on the agenda, with Council approving a $500 contribution to the Peace Country Beef & Forage Association’s Northern Women in Agriculture Conference, which will take place February 19–20, 2026.
Councillors concluded their report by sharing updates from their recent trip to the Alberta Municipalities Convention, where they met with ministers and municipal representatives to advocate for the continued operation and future stability of the Fairview Campus.
