At the 2025 Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), a resolution advocating for the on-farm sale of unpasteurized dairy products was formally endorsed.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Municipal District of Greenview, seeks to amend federal regulations to permit these sales under specific conditions.
Reeve Ryan Ratzlaff highlighted the community’s existing consumption of raw milk and the potential economic benefits for small farms.
The resolution proposes that provinces develop frameworks encompassing producer food safety training, labeling, traceability, and on-farm oversight.
Currently, the sale of raw milk in Canada has been illegal since 1991 due to concerns over food-borne illnesses.
