The Northern Alberta Teacher Award is a new initiative aimed at encouraging of Education students live and teach in Alberta after graduation. This program seeks to attract and retain qualified teachers in communities where they are needed most, thereby enhancing learning opportunities for students and families across the region.
Award recipients are eligible to receive $9,000 after completing two years of full-time teaching, or $18,000 after completing three years. This return-to-service model incentivizes new teachers to commit to at least two years in a northern Alberta school division, ensuring students in smaller and remote communities have access to high-quality education and promoting stability in classrooms.
